TBI - Executive Director

In the fall of 2006, The Biotechnology Initiative took a big step in its growth by naming a part-time Executive Director, and TBI and its members saw a transformation in the organization as we added 10 new Corporate Relationships as members and sponsors. The Board of TBI has decided it is time to make the next step and has started a search for a Full time Executive Director!

TBI is the leading community to grow the BioScience cluster in Ontario, we represent companies of all size from small biotech to large biopharmaceutical companies, the key service providers and stakeholders are also affiliated with us. The past focus has been primarily therapeutics but is expanding its focus to work with all areas of biotechnology including, ag-biotech, industrial biotech such as biofuels, biochemicals, the environment and functional foods and nutraceuticals We have a strong individual and student membership which makes TBI unique in Ontario.

The Executive Director will have strong communication and networking skills with a mandate to grow membership and sponsorship. Their project management skills will be utilized to harness the volunteer base of TBI in the areas of government relations and developing sector focused programs for our stakeholders. This role deals with the day to day running of the organization and the individual needs to be comfortable in working in a multi-stakeholder environment and truly be a self starter.

The Executive Director will report to the Chair of the TBI Board of Directors. TBI is governed by a Board of Directors of 14 people, made up of Corporate Members, Individual members including a student representative, 4 regional representatives and an independent. Represented at the Board include the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Executive Director and the Past Chair. An Executive Committee of up to 5 people deal with operating items as required. The Executive Director will be part of this committee.
